Even in low resolution, the nature footage makes you want to rest and relax in a peaceful, quiet, government-protected wilderness (with picnic areas, including a barbecue to boil cobs of corn). Lovely panned shots, with the violins in the background adding to the mood.
At about 5:10 the narrator quotes from "The Vagrant" by Pauline Slender.
Even in 1938, the narrator is talking about conservation.
The film shows a few new cars with sloping backs, but many are boxy sedans of the late '20s and early '30s.

It's interesting to see how parks were promoted then, as sanctuaries for recreation, compared to the modern era where conservation takes precedence. A worthwhile look into the past.

It'd been barely 15 years since a reliable car existed, and good roads as well, to get to a faraway place like that. So this was for the high tech and high society. At the end, grampa (the tall guy at the right) is salivating over those fish.

Its interesting to think of the historical context of this video. 1938 was not too long after the crash and people were not completely out of the depression yet. Also, war was starting with Japan and Germany. It seems like parks were being promoted as therapy for troubling times. It makes me want to visit a park now!

Produced by the U.S Department of the Interior (not Agriculture)This 1938 film about the state parks in Minnesota was well done. Too bad it wasn't photographed in color. I found the cars and people's outfit of that era interesting.

Quite similar in style to, if you can beleive it, Brandon, Park Conxcious involves a narrator that doesnt really go beyond "parks are good" while having delirious classical music pipe in during the (long) gaps when he is not talking. The images we see are just various people frolicking in of course, parks. Not bad for the iomages, but everything else falls flat.

US Dept. of Interior distributed this film praising Minnesota's state parks developed under the New Deal with idylic summer woodlands and lake front scenes. Nice scenery.
